My vision for Bradford County

With the passage of the latest constitutional amendment and the slower movement of the economy, county and municipal governments will be pressured to compete over shrinking tax dollars to provide much-needed services. The simple solution may be to raise or impose new taxes, but the easiest choice is not necessarily the best choice.

With that in mind we still need to invest in our future. Here is how we do it. With the use of chip seal paving technology we can pave six miles of road with the same money that we would need to pave just one mile of road with asphalt. There are over 380 miles of dirt road in Bradford County. If we then used available grants to help fund a fire sub station on the eastside of the railrail road tracks in District Three we would lower home owner insurance rates and raise the property values of rural property. We also need to work with the water management district and DOC to clear out Prevatt Creek and the contributary ditches to reduce mosquito and snake infestations that threaten our safety and the safety of our livestock. If we can do these things and work with the City of Starke to reduce utilities, we can make Bradford County a much better place.

We need a county government that can provide for the proper administration of necessary services in a cost-efficient way. We should also be mindful of having a government that is properly prepared for ever-present threats to the health and safety of our community by way of natural and man-made disasters. We need a county commissioner with experience over a broad range of matters to cover these issues that approach as a thief in the night.

Elect Dan Sikes for Bradford County Commission, District Three
